EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION

PROCEDURE FOR DISTRIBUTING HOLY COMMUNION

A.   BEFORE MASS:

If you wish to serve:  Pick up a cross from the wooden board on either side of the Communion rail before Mass begins.

Red necklaces for serving the Precious Blood

Blue necklaces for serving the Host.

Please make sure that all of the crosses have been taken.  Try to sit in the front quarter of the Church in order to proceed to the altar in a timely manner.

B.  PROCEED TO THE ALTAR:

"Let us offer each other the sign of Peace"

After a quick sign of peace to those nearest you, start walking to the altar so that you will be on the altar before the "breaking of the Bread." [Lamb of God]  Show reverence with a bow as you approach the altar.

C.  RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION:

If there is no deacon or second priest (10:30) Mass), the minister of the Host closest to the metal screen on the VICKSBURG ST. SIDE steps up to receive Communion from the priest.  He then distributes Communion to the other ministers on that side.  He or she then hands out the ciboriums and chalices to the remaining ministers; according to the designated cross necklaces.  (Red or Blue)

D.  PROCEED TO STATIONS:

After you have received a ciborium or chalice, proceed, AFTER THE PRIEST, to the station designated on the back of your cross.

[For those Masses where the Choir or Contemporaries are serving - whoever has the Cross for the center-back Memphis St. side will serve them and then proceed to your designated position.]

E.  RETURN TO ALTAR:

  1.  If you are a minister of the Host, return to the side of the altar (at the base of the steps) and wait for the priest of deacon to take the ciborium.

  2.  If you are a minister of the cup, proceed to the John of Vercelli altar on the Vicksburg St. side or to the Blessed Mother's altar on the Memphis St. side.  Stop at the altar and consume any remaining Precious Blood.  Do not consume while walking.  Open the purificator (white cloth) completely and lay across the chalice so that the chalice is completely covered.

F.  RETURN TO YOUR SEAT:

Show reverence with a bow as you leave the altar.  Return the Cross to the wooden board and return to your seat.

Notes About Dress:

Ladies:  Please do not wear flip-flops, shorts, short skirts or revealing tops.

Gentleman:  Please wear a collared shirt with buttons and slacks.  No shorts or T-shirts.
